Internet Archive is seeking a backend software engineer for its Archiving & Data Services team. Internet Archive (IA) is a non-profit digital library, top 200 website at archive.org, and an archive of over 150 petabytes of digital information running in many self-owned and operated data centers. Internet Archive also provides mission-aligned services to thousands of organizations worldwide, working collaboratively to advance our goal of "Universal Access to All Knowledge."
Our department's web applications are built on Django. We use a mix of different technologies for backend processing, including temporal.io. We have some other Java-based technologies in production, so some experience tuning JVM-based services is useful. This role will be involved in some Django app development, as well as our web crawler orchestration systems, web crawlers, and backend data processing and indexing.
We are remote-first, with a fully optional office in San Francisco. Some overlap with Pacific timezone 9am-12 noon is required. We are hiring at multiple levels of experience from non-senior to senior engineering positions.
